GREEN BAY, Wis. — There’s no telling what kind of role 6’6”, 307-pound defensive tackle Anthony Campbell will have for the Green Bay Packers this season, but making the team’s 53-man roster is a monumental step for a massive human being.
On Sunday, the Packers released 30 players as they trimmed their roster down for the upcoming season. Campbell was presumed to be among them—a year on the practice squad would be beneficial for a second-year undrafted player with very little on his resume to show for his career thus far. But the minutes and hours ticked by, and Campbell never received a phone call from the team.
No news was good news.
“That Saturday night into Sunday, I couldn’t sleep,” Campbell said after Wednesday’s practice. “It was a sleepless night. I couldn’t sleep for nothing. That was the worst part about it.”
