GREEN BAY, Wis. — Few competitions in Green Bay this summer have been monitored more closely than the Packers’ offensive line.
Both guard positions are up for grabs, with last year’s starting left guard, Aaron Banks, and last year’s starter at right guard, Anthony Belton, dealing with different obstacles.
Banks has been participating in 11-on-11 drills as of late, but for a significant portion of training camp, his workload was being capped as the Packers managed tendinitis in his knee following an offseason injury. Even after he began practicing in team drills, Banks was operating on a day-on, day-off schedule, and hasn’t appeared in either of the Packers’ two preseason games.
With the Sept. 13 regular-season opener against the Minnesota Vikings just over two weeks away, Banks will be the Packers’ starter at left guard if he’s healthy, but that if is looming.
