GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers’ backfield will be a carousel of sorts to begin the 2026 campaign, and who knows when they’ll get off of it.
Josh Jacobs has been the starter for the last two seasons, and he’s surpassed 1,200 yards from scrimmage in each of them. However, he’s on the Commissioner’s Exempt List due to a May domestic dispute that is still under investigation. Until he’s removed from the list, he can’t practice with the rest of the team or participate in games. He’s essentially on paid leave until the league determines whether or not to discipline him.
Without him, the Packers are taking a committee approach to their running game. MarShawn Lloyd will lead the stable, with newcomer Kaleb Johnson and Chris Brooks rounding out the depth chart. Both players will see their fair share of work as they split time with Lloyd, who has just six regular-season carries since being drafted by the Packers in the third round in the spring of 2024. Given the uncertainty of the position group, the Packers will also likely elevate Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad.
