GREEN BAY, Wis. — Two hours south of Lambeau Field, Kevin Zeitler had a front-row seat to it all.
The Waukesha, Wisc. native was six years old when Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers embarked on a magical Super Bowl run in 1996 amid three consecutive MVP campaigns from the quarterback. Nine when that magic fizzled out, and franchise cornerstones Reggie White, Fritz Shurmur, Robert Brooks, and Mike Holmgren all departed. 18 when the Packers transferred power from Favre to some California kid named Aaron, and 20 when that kid—whose surname, Rodgers, had by now become a household name—won Green Bay its fourth Super Bowl.
It’s what made Zeitler’s swan song—his seventh and presumably final stop in a 15-year career—that much more special.
