GREEN BAY, Wis. — After meandering their way to a 1-2 record to begin the season, the Green Bay Packers will at least have the luxury of game-planning for a backup quarterback this week.
Of course, it won’t matter if they can’t figure out how to protect their own quarterback, Jordan Love, after he’s taken 34 hits through three games. But their defense could be experiencing less strain in Tampa Bay next Sunday, as the Buccaneers intend to start undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels in place of Baker Mayfield.
The 31-year-old Mayfield became the latest victim of the Minnesota Vikings’ tenacious defense after he sustained a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand late in Sunday’s loss at Raymond James Stadium. This comes on the heels of the Vikings’ Sept. 20 win over the Chicago Bears, in which both Caleb Williams and his backup, Tyson Bagent, suffered injuries. Williams exited with a Grade 2 hamstring injury while Bagent was placed in concussion protocol.
