Packers Still Deciphering Best Position for Versatile Lineman Anthony Belton

Last year’s right guard has predominantly spent time at right tackle as of late, including playing 36 snaps against the Steelers.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The entire right side of the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line has been a game of musical chairs this summer.

Anthony Belton, Jacob Monk, Donovan Jennings, Darian Kinnard, and Jager Burton have all taken snaps at right guard, with Belton and Kinnard alternating at right tackle in place of Zach Bako-Bewele.

Right tackle isn’t up for grabs—that’s Bako-Bewele’s job. But the Packers have had to get a little creative while he’s still working his way back from offseason surgery on the partially torn patellar tendon he suffered last season. Belton, a second-round pick last spring, has been primarily a tackle dating back to high school, but the Packers deployed him at right guard mid-season as a rookie and yielded positive results.

Belton opened his career as a tackle, but after Elgton Jenkins sustained a season-ending lower-leg injury in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, then-right guard Sean Rhyan shifted inside to center, leaving an open competition between Belton and 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan at Rhyan’s previous spot.

A lot has changed since then.
