GREEN BAY, Wis. — When the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals did battle in the Aug. 28 preseason finale, the game essentially came down to a duel between two quarterbacks.
Kyle McCord, donning green and gold, and Kedon Slovis, sporting all white. Only one of them would stick around in Green Bay after cut-downs, and it wasn’t McCord.
Slovis, who was released by the Cardinals on Sunday, is being signed to the Packers’ practice squad as the team’s emergency No. 3 quarterback. General manager Brian Gutekunst revealed the transaction during his pre-practice press conference on Tuesday.
Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2024, Slovis has played for three different teams, with the Packers being his fourth. He has now been waived during roster cut-downs in three consecutive summers, but landing in Green Bay—otherwise known as the Quarterback Development Factory—could revitalize his career. The Packers already have the luxury of getting multiple extensive looks at Slovis, who participated in last week’s joint practice and handled the majority of the starting reps in the ensuing preseason game.
