Practice No. 7 Injury Report: Josh Jacobs Held Out With Groin Injury
There doesn't appear to be any long-term concern for the Packers' starting running back.
GREEN BAY, Wis. — After an off day on Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers were back on the practice field Thursday for a somewhat scaled-back version of their usual session.
It’s the eve of their annual Family Night scrimmage, which will take place inside the Lambeau Field bowl in front of what the Packers hope to be 60,000-plus fans.
Five players are on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the Packers: EDGE Micah Parsons, long snapper Matt Orzech, tight end Luke Musgrave, and defensive linemen Jordon Riley and Javon Hargrave. The lone player on the Non-Football Injury list is running back Chris Brooks, who head coach Matt LaFleur doesn’t appear to be concerned with.
“Chris Brooks is a guy I never worry about,” LaFleur said ahead of Thursday’s practice. “He’s a maniac when it comes to wanting to get in the weight room, to run, to do anything when it comes to training. Hopefully, we’ll see him sooner rather than later.”
Brooks isn’t the only running back in the stable hindered by an injury. Josh Jacobs, the Packers’ starter, was one of three non-participants in Thursday’s session. It would be five, but tight ends Luke Lachey and RJ Maryland were waived/injured on Tuesday.
Josh Jacobs (Groin)
Jacobs is currently dealing with a groin injury that doesn’t appear to be a long-term issue that will persist into the season, or even into next week. Even so, the Packers are going to tread carefully, and rightfully so—soft tissue injuries are notoriously tricky. With how thin and unproven their backfield is, they can’t afford to lose their No. 1 on the depth chart. MarShawn Lloyd is next up in the pecking order, and the first two years of his career have been plagued by injury, so he isn’t a reliable option. Pierre Strong Jr., Damien Martinez, and Jaden Nixon round out the rest of the room with Jacobs and Brooks sidelined.
CB Carrington Valentine (Hamstring)
The fourth-year cornerback is losing ground in the battle for a starting job in the Packers’ secondary. Second-round rookie Brandon Cisse and free-agent signing Benjamin St-Juste have made headlines throughout training camp, while Valentine has now missed three consecutive practices with a hamstring injury. He dropped out of the Aug. 2 practice prior to participating in 11-on-11 drills and hasn’t returned.
LaFleur said that Valentine won’t practice in any capacity this week. “Not long-term, but as far as I could tell you, I’m not going to give you a timeline for when he’ll be back. It’s a shame because he was playing really good football.”
S Johnathan Baldwin (Knee)
An undrafted free agent in 2025 who spent the entirety of his rookie season on the Packers’ practice squad, Baldwin has flashed throughout camp so far. He exited practice on Monday with a knee injury, but it likely isn’t severe. Otherwise, he’d be another addition to the team’s PUP list. Baldwin is competing for the No. 2 slot cornerback role behind Javon Bullard, and he’s certainly making his case for a spot on the 53-man roster. He even intercepted a pass from Tyrod Taylor last Thursday.
